One can easily discern from these Russian folk melodies where composers such as Tchaikovsky and Borodin got their inspiration. There are twelve tunes here, over an hour of music, all of it familiar, yet not quite so. The titles may give you a clue: "Snow Flurries," "Moscow Nights," "Dark Eyes," "Along the Peterskaya Road," and "The Song of the Volga Boatmen." The trouble with them is that while they are all played with polish and grace, they are also played with a degree of restraint.
