First, the good news. Brendel, at age seventy I believe, is going stronger than ever. These two piano concertos, recorded in September of 2000, are uniformly sensitive and mature, with playing so dexterous and light you'd think the keys had been sprinkled with pixie dust before the artist stepped to play them. And Sir Charles's accompaniment is every bit as masterful as he follows and supports Brendel through both pieces with his Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

Now, the bad news. If you are even a modest collector of classical music, this particular coupling of Nos. 22 and 27 will probably duplicate what you already have, giving you hesitation ...
