I've heard of sound as smooth as silk, but the Telarc folks are taking it to the ridiculous. Using Sony/ Philip's new DSD recording system, Telarc have not just produced one of their usual super-smooth projects, they've eliminated texture altogether. I mean, there isn't a sharp edge, straight edge, or any edge at all to be found. Now, usually, that kind of statement would be news for rejoicing, but not here, not now. In fact, this new release has no definition whatever; it's all soft, plush, velvety, foggy, and, ultimately, blurry.

Understand that most of the recordings I've heard from the London Philharmonic going all the way back to Sir Adrian Boult's day ...
