The President and Committee of the Australian Association of Friends of the Taliban held a wine and cheese party at their Cabramatta clubrooms yesterday evening in honour of Mullah Akbar al Loonibin, sometime Minister for Cultural Heritage in Kabul, and sundry Mrs al Looni-bins.

The Mullah is in Australia on an unofficial visit, having arrived anonymously by Indonesian fishing boat on a beach near Broome together with 248 members of his immediate family.

Before the refreshments the Mullah gave an informal tank on his work for Afghan heritage in the specialised fiend of iconoclasm. This was illustrated with coloured slides of a number of the historic statues he had caused to be demolished. The Mullah then spoke at length on the need to destroy an even larger edifice, the United Slates of America.

The party was gratifyingly well attended by more than fifty Friends and, with the Mullah's wives, children, in-laws etc. also enjoying the evening, there was standing room only. Nevertheless a good time was had by all, until ...
