A senior United Nations official as said that Australia has "no one but itself to blame" if asylum seekers continue to try to land there.
Mrs Molly Malone, former Irish president and now the UN's chief inquisitor for refugee placement, said the asylum seekers were "Australia's fault" because it "tempted them to go there" by its "ostentatious prosperity" and the "luxurious lifestyle" of its people. "No wonder refugees are attracted to Australia as by a magnet," she continued.
