SIR: I am not a Democrat supporter but I commiserate with the plight of their party. When parties move from minor party status to players they actually have to be responsible, and with that comes possible costs--unpopularity and losing! I have a lot of respect for Meg Lees for helping reform our tax system, but she also achieved a lot of environmental changes with the Coalition that the Democrats never achieved with the ALP in thirteen years.
The Greens have claimed the populist turf now. Federally they have opposed pretty well everything since they have been there.
