Abstract

Information technology, and the knowledge, equipment, and skills needed to understand and use it have become an everyday part of today's university. It is apparent to faculty in higher education that the majority of first-year students do not have the requisite computer and information skills to be comfortable and successful in this technological environment. To remedy this, at California State University, Chico, curriculum focused on information and computer competencies comprise fifty percent of the first-year-experience course.
