Trilla Lyerla, NCTM, of Kansas reflected on her tribute to a colleague at his retirement ceremony. "Should we not all as music teachers aspire to be remembered as such a teacher, someone who obviously went beyond the nuts and bolts of technique, theory, history and repertoire and conveyed his passion for this phenomena called music. We must teach our students the fundamental skills of music and give them the tools to make music, to be artists, for a lifetime. And, if we are successful, then our students will not be discouraged to dream dreams that will motivate them to achieve in ways they may not have thought possible."
