   Among the over-sixties now 
   he's noticing the strange equation, 
   standing in the hour for drinks 
 
   or laughing at a table. 
   The men have either been dismissed 
   (forgivably, he will admit) 
 
   or wandered off with someone younger 
   taken up at work. 
   Increasingly they're dying too, 
 
   not always with a beer in hand, 
   these men who once played rugby hard 
   or talked into the dawn. 
 
   It might be that he's in a zoo 
   for some endangered ...
