SIR: I had just finished reading your editorial in the October Quadrant, skewering with customary clarity the arrogant pretensions of our self-styled opinion leaders, and picked up the Saturday Australian of 6th October. I was immediately transported back to the 1970s or thereabouts, seeing not one but two close-typed pages of names of the above concerned intelligentsia beating their breasts about the illegal immigrants, as they flaunted their compassion, clearly to shame the rest of us for daring to have a cruel and different opinion.
