The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) will stage mass protests at justice departments in the Free State, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday to highlight women and child abuse. This was announced by ANCYL president Malusi Gigaba at a press conference in Johannesburg on Sunday. Gigaba said his organisation had singled out Gauteng because that was where the Justice Department's headquarters were based, and this would allow the ANCYL to convey its message directly to Justice Minister Penuell Maduna. He said the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal were chosen as a result of rampant women and child abuses. Some of the issues the ANCYL is expected to include in its memorandum, is racism in the justice system and the manner in which courts handle women and child abuse cases.
