Labour union MWU-Solidarity has lodged a complaint of racial discrimination with the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) against the South African Rugby Football Union (Sarfu) on behalf of five senior rugby administrators. MWU-Solidarity spokesman Kallie Kriel said in a statement on Sunday that the administrators were furious about a Sarfu policy document in which provincial rugby unions were apparently offered financial rewards if they replaced white players and rugby administrators with black players and administrators. Sarfu's policy rewards rugby unions with R25000 if a black coach is appointed, while the appointment of a black chief executive will earn R18000 for a union. In addition to the complaint lodged with the SAHRC, MWU-Solidarity also instructed the trade union's legal representatives to investigate the matter and make arrangements to institute legal proceedings against Sarfu in terms of labour legislation, or other anti-discriminatory legislation. The five rugby administrators, who are all members of MWU-Solidarity, claim that Sarfu's policy discriminates unfairly against them on a racial basis.
