Members of seven parliamentary committees will get their first opportunity on Tuesday to quiz the three-agency investigating team on their findings on the multi-billion rand arms deal. Auditor-General Shauket Fakie, Public Protector Selby Baqwa and National Director of Public Prosecutions Bulelani Ngcuka will answer questions in Parliament on the report. The three men briefed MPs when the 380-page report was formally tabled on November 15, but there was no opportunity for questions. The investigation found no "improper or unlawful conduct" by the government, and no grounds to suggest its contracting position was flawed. The National Assembly's finance, trade and industry, ethics, defence, justice, public service and administration, and the standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) will meet the investigators from 9.30am. The discussions are expected to continue on Wednesday, after which the committees may hold separate sessions with any of the three agencies. On the agenda for Tuesday's meeting are the background of the report and the methodology used in compiling it, the quality of drafting of the contracts, the offsets negotiated, financial implications of the deal, and the selection of subcontractors and possible conflicts of interest.
