Kyle gains 800 acres: Hays County town also adopts zoning ordinances.

The City of Kyle has annexed 800 acres and adopted new zoning ordinances in a bid to promote growth and retain the town's charm.

"We hope to retain some of the small-town ambiance that it [Kyle] has but allow for the growth that we anticipate will be here in the future," says Ernie Dixon, president of the Kyle Chamber of Commerce.

Dixon says the chamber's 40 members support the City of Kyle's recent annexation of land and adoption of new zoning ordinances.

Kyle's population has more than doubled in the past decade. Figures from the U.S. Census Bureau show the population of Kyle, 20 miles south of Austin, jumped from 2,225 residents in 1990 to 5,314 …
