ST. LOUIS -- Physically demanding vaginal surgery is best done standing upright with the operating table at maximum height, Dr. Stephen L. Larson advised during the 12th International Pelvic Reconstructive and Vaginal Surgery Conference.

"I would encourage you to do these tough operations standing up with your neck erect so you're looking straight into the vagina. It's a much more relaxing way to do it. I learned this the hard way. After doing vaginal surgery sitting down for 18 years I blew out a disk in my neck at C7/T1," said Dr. Larson, who is a gynecologic surgeon in private practice in Minneapolis.
