ATLANTA BRAVES: Rookie Marcus Giles did a solid job replacing Quilvio Veras at second base last season, hitting .262 in 68 games. But the club plans to move SS Rafael Furcal, who missed most of the second half following surgery on a dislocated shoulder, to second full time and make Wilson Betemit the regular shortstop. It will be an easy transition for Furcal, who has excellent range and one of the game's best arms. If Betemit, who hit .355 at Class AA Greenville last season in 47 games, stumbles in the spring and the team decides to move Furcal back to short, Giles can handle the second base job.
