DEHRADUN, Dec 3 Asia Pulse - Despite strong opposition by environmentalists and community groups, the Indian government has approved the closure of two diversion tunnels from the controversial 2400 mw Tehri Hydel dam project.
The Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC), the agency set up to construct Asia's highest dam, has already issued orders to close the t-3 and t-4 tunnels within a day or two, the sources said here on Friday.
The move comes in the wake of the decision to postpone the deadline of commissioning of the first phase of the Dam, scheduled for March next, has now been postponed to March 2003. The work ...
