WASHINGTON, Dec 3 Asia Pulse - A Pentagon official said Thursday that the U.S. Department of Defense is confident of its ability to help Taiwan acquire eight diesel-electric submarines, contrary to a report Wednesday that claimed it might be unable to deliver on its promise.
Without elaborating, the official said that several viable proposals were already under evaluation, and that America's pledge to go through with the sale was "made in earnest."
Another defense official called the Voice of America report "baseless."
The radio station, which usually conveys U.S. government policies, quoted unidentified Pentagon officials who said that Taiwan may have to rethink its procurement plan if the United States could not purchase diesel-electric submarine blueprints for Taiwan from countries that still build conventional ...
