TAIPEI, Dec 3 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's travel service agencies, which have been battered by the global economic downturn over the past year, have mixed opinions about business prospects after Saturday's legislative and local government chief elections.
Although some travel agencies remain pessimistic about business prospects in December and the early months of next year while others say orders are picking up, they are unanimous that this year is certainly the worst of the last decade in terms of business turnover.
This year's recession, which was caused by the global economic downturn and several typhoons that hit the island, culminating in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on America, are largely responsible for the downturn in tourism, local travel agency sources said.
