TOKYO, Dec 3 Asia Pulse - Fourteen of the 17 major general contractors are forecasting a drop in their group operating profits in fiscal 2001.

Thirteen firms foresee a decline in consolidated sales since both the public and private sectors are likely to cut back on construction spending. Parent-only gross profit margins for completed projects are also expected to fall at 14 contractors.
