TOKYO, Dec 3 Asia Pulse - The latest employment statistics released by the Public Management Ministry Friday morning indicate that the current economic slump is hitting the main household income earners especially hard, particularly middle-aged and older workers.
The unemployment rates for men and household breadwinners in October both posted record highs. Men accounted for most of the 640,000 decrease in the number of people with jobs.
The primary factor behind the worsening unemployment situation is the accelerating pace of job cutbacks targeting permanent employees, who receive relatively higher pay.
