"Before product designers had computer technology," says Tom Wujec, PortfolioWall business manager at Alias/Wavefront, "they used to put their drawings on the walls where everyone could see them." The digital design process, however, replaced the paper sketches of yore with images on workstations. These weren't as easy for groups of people to view, and designers began to realize that important design decisions had been made during those impromptu conversations next to the wall.
The solution was PortfolioWall, developed initially for client General Motors as a kind of digital bulletin board that allowed multiple users to view and annotate images through a touchscreen interface.
