TAICHUNG City, Sept 3 Asia Pulse - A Cabinet official said Friday that it is still too early to react to speculation on whether Taichung Harbor in central Taiwan will be authorized as one of the Taiwan seaports to engage in direct shipping with mainland China.
Chen Ming-tong, vice chairman of the Cabinet-level Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), Taiwan's highest government agency in charge of formulating policies toward mainland China, called on the Taiwan public not to engage in meaningless speculation, saying that the questions of which seaports and how many will be designated as appointed ports for direct cross-strait shipping is still in the planning stage.
Chen said he is bewildered by rumors that Taichung Harbor has been excluded from the list, which have stirred up swipes against the government from among the people in central Taiwan.
