TAIPEI, Sept 3 Asia Pulse - Compaq Computer Inc. and Taiwan's Academia Sinica, the most reputable academic research institute in Taiwan, signed a cooperative memorandum Friday to engage in gene and biotechnology research in Taiwan.
The memorandum was jointly signed by Compaq Global Services Vice Chairman Bill Blake and Academia Sinica President Lee Yuan-tseh.
Compaq and Academia Sinica will first join hands in establishing a state-level biotech research center in the form of a strategic alliance, a non-profit enterprise or a corporation.
Besides gene and biotech research, the research center will also establish gene and protein databases on the island.
