Aaron Sorkin, producer of the NBC drama "The West Wing," recently pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and two felony charges for possession of marijuana, cocaine, and hallucinogenic mushrooms. In exchange for his guilty plea, district attorneys placed Sorkin in a "deferred entry of judgment" program. For 24 months Sorkin will attend treatment classes while remaining in his Studio City home and continuing work on his hit show. If Sorkin completes the program successfully, the entire case will be expunged from his record.
To qualify for this gentle treatment in California, one must be a first-time drug offender. Yet in 1999, Sorkin admitted in an interview with the Los Angeles Times to an addiction to freebase cocaine. ...
