With its new Wildcat II 5000 graphics accelerator, a single-pipeline version of its top-of-the-line 5110, 3Dlabs aims to bring Wildcat technology to a broader spectrum of professional users. Not only is the 5000 nearly $1000 cheaper than the 5110, it's available as a standalone product from the company's Web site. 3Dlabs is also making the 5000, as well as the 5110, available to resellers rather, than solely to OEM manufacturers, as has been the case until now.

The Wildcat II 5000 is built on the same architecture as the 5110. It has a programmable geometry accelerator, a rasterization engine that delivers 8.5 million polygons per second, 3Dlabs' SuperScene antialiasing, hardware ...
