A few years back, A's general manager Billy Beane and director of player personnel J.P. Ricciardi engaged in a mock draft at the All-Star Game, with Mariners G.M. Pat Gillick serving as judge. The exercise was standard operating procedure for Beane and Ricciardi, two of the game's leading architects.
