Just a few years ago, your iron probably languished in the closet most of the time. But more of us have hung up our business suits and dresses in favor of casual attire, often made of natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, and washable silk. That means fewer trips to the dry cleaner and more time at the ironing board, touching up machine-washable garments so they look crisp and presentable. Iron manufacturers are catering to this trend with a growing array of choices. General Electric, Kenmore (Sears), and Toastmaster have joined familiar names such as Black & Decker and Proctor-Silex, the top two makers, which together account for more than half of all sales.
