A 2-year-old boy was killed and three adults were seriously injured in a head-on collision that forced the closure of Interstate 25 for two hours Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred around 5:20 p.m. about two miles south of Bernalillo, when Deborah Dieppa-Yoder, 41, and her toddler son were headed south on I-25. Dieppa-Yoder crossed the median between mile markers 238 and 239, striking a northbound car carrying driver Allen Chinana, 17, and passenger Rose Chinana, 48, both of Jemez Pueblo, said Lt. Robert Schilling, spokesman for the State Police.
The boy was pronounced dead on the scene by the medical investigator and was taken to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque.
Dieppa-Yoder was taken by helicopter to University of New Mexico Hospital, and the Chinanas were transported by ambulance to UNMH, Schilling said.
Dieppa-Yoder and Allen Chinana are in satisfactory condition, and Rose Chinana is in critical condition, said hospital spokesman Sam Giammo.
Dieppa-Yoder, her husband and son had moved back to New Mexico from Washington state five days ago and were staying in Placitas.
