SEN. Aquilino Pimentel yesterday said there was a need to tighten the laws on foundations organized and managed by public officials, especially those engaged in money-raising activities.

Pimentel made the statement in reaction to the claim of Bulacan Rep. Willie Villarama that First Gentleman Mike Arroyo received a total of P18 million from businessman Mark Jimenez in 1999, when Jimenez was not yet a congressman of Manila.

Pimentel said there was a need to prevent public officials from engaging in activities that would compromise their positions in government.
