Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - The Nigerian Supreme Court Friday upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal which declared as unconstitutional the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of political parties in the country.

Ruling on the appeal filed by INEC, the Supreme Court sided with the defendants that registration of parties should be governed by the provisions of the constitution only.

The implication is that INEC will be required to commence the process of registering the five political associations it had denied registration in June, when it …
