Progenics Pharmaceuticals Inc (Progenics) has been awarded about $1 M from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health for the development of novel immunotherapies for prostate cancer. The funding comes from four Phase I Small Business Innovation Research grants for therapies that use components of the immune system to target cancer cells for destruction. Funding is intended to support development of monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic vaccines directed against prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a biological marker found on the surface of prostate cancer cells.
