Poland's accession to the European Union will not produce any dramatic changes to the manner in which border controls are conducted or to existing entry bans placed upon Poles. Since the opening of EU member borders to post-communist state citizens after 1989, a number of Poles have been declared persona non grata in certain countries. Most often, such entry bans have been issued for illegal trade or work and are stamped in passports. The so-called Schengen Information System (SIS) maintained by countries that have eliminated common border controls provides a central database of such undesirable visitors, but this information is only shared …
