PEOPLE caught exploding powerful firecrackers and burning tires in Manila to welcome the New Year would be thrown in jail, according to Mayor Lito Atienza.

Atienza yesterday directed the Western Police District to arrest anybody who would explode "super lolos," "thunders," "pla-plas," "bawangs" and "whistle bombs."

He said these could already be considered as explosives.

Atienza also banned the burning of tires and other flammable materials on the streets, saying that this is "a very dangerous practice."
