UNM Study Shows Treatment Protects Against Cervical Virus

Dreams of eliminating cervical cancer got a big boost with a published report today about a vaccine that is 100 percent effective against one of the cancer's causes.

"I'm excited ... There's never been anything like this before," said Cosette Wheeler, a University of New Mexico researcher whose team has done work leading to development of the vaccine. More than 200 women took part in clinical trials at UNM, which was among 16 sites testing the vaccine.
