An American citizen died after being shot at a security forces roadblock in eastern Zimbabwe on Monday. A United States embassy spokesman confirmed on Tuesday that Richard Gilman, 58, of Torrington, Connecticut, had died of a gunshot wound. However, the spokesman added, "the circumstances of his death remain unclear." "We have sent officers to Mutare to figure out what happened. We have sent people out there to talk to anyone who can help us understand what happened."
