Media guides add inches to a hockey player's height like a movie camera adds pounds to an actor's frame. Do you really think Paul Kariya is 5-10? On skates, maybe.

The media-guide inflation is more rampant than disguised playoffs injuries. But if the actual heights are murky, the results on the ice are not. Undersized players are having an impact in the postseason--excepting Kariya and his lowly Ducks, of course.

For every strapping 6-4 Bobby Holik, there's a 5-7 Brian Gionta for the Devils. In an Islanders locker room where you'll find 6-5 Oleg Kvasha, 5-10 Kip Miller lurks nearby. On the Coyotes, Michal Handzus stands 6-5, but 5-10 Daniel Briere scores ...
