Do you remember the movie Bull Durham? It's basically on the mandatory viewing list for baseball players. The best scene is when Crash Davis, played by Kevin Costner, explains what it was like to be in the show.
"Yeah, I was in the show. I was in the show for 21 days once--the 21 greatest days of my life. You know, you never handle your luggage in the show; somebody else carries your bags. It was great. You hit white balls for batting practice, the ballparks are like cathedrals, the hotels all have room service, and the women all have long legs and brains."
Whatever you imagine playing in the big leagues is like, you're not even close to just how awesome it is. Crash Davis was dead on. It's beyond cool.
When you're in the big leagues you just play. You basically have a full staff at your disposal to do whatever you need to have done. You get spoiled, and you can have bad habits once the the season is over. My wife has to remind me there is no equipment manager at the house. I haven't picked up my underwear in eight months. It's not something I'm proud of, but you want honesty, right?
But you don't want to read about my underwear (I hope), so let's run through a typical road trip. When the last game of a series ends, the work begins for all the clubhouse guys.
