Taipei, Nov. 19, 2002 (CENS)--Chang Chun Group, one of Taiwan's largest petrochemical concerns, will invest NT$3 billion (US$86.46 million) to set up a phenol plant in Tafa Industrial Park of Kaohsiung County

Phenol is a major material used by the PC and optoelectronics industries

The proposed plant will have an annual output of 200,000 metric tons of phenol. Chang Chun will reserve some of the plant's output for self use and sell the remainder to Chi Mei Optoelectronics Co. as a raw material for the production of thin film transistor-liquid crystal displays
