"Harry Potter" sequel bewitches US box office.

Wizardly "Harry Potter" bewitched the US box office last weekend, notching up 88.3 million dollars in ticket sales and scoring the third biggest movie opening in history.

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" also wowed audiences in seven other markets across the world, taking in an additional 59.5 million dollars and bringing the film's global weekend total to a huge 147.8 million.

But while producers hailed the performance of the second movie in the celebrated series, its takings in North America failed to quite match up to the record-breaking success of its predecessor, final figures indicated.
