Ken Macha will be making a homecoming of sorts in his debut as Oakland A's manager.

Macha, whose A's will open the season in Tokyo against the Seattle Mariners, played four seasons with the Chunichi Dragons from 1982-85.

"Baseball is the only major sport over there besides sumo," Macha, told Major League Baseball's official Web site MLB. com, apparently unaware of the rise of soccer in the three decades since he was here. "So baseball players are treated pretty well.

"It should be a lot of fun."
