SANDESTIN, FLA. -- A number of factors are important to investigate when it comes to signing a contract with an insurance company Dr. Robert A. Skidmore Jr. said at a meeting of the Alabama Dermatology Society.
For one thing, be sure to obtain a copy of the company's fee schedule--and demand a new one each year. The companies are required to provide them, so don't be fooled by claims that they are unavailable, said Dr. Skidmore of the University of Florida, Gainesville.
Knowing the patient copayment and deductible amounts is also imperative, as is insisting that patients pay those at the time of the visit. If you don't get the copayment up front, the chances of getting it down the road are slim.
