It was midway through the Eastern Conference finals when the refrain was heard along press row in Toronto. With apologies to Bob Dylan and boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, it went something like this: "Here comes the story of the Hurricanes.... When it's over, will we know their names?"
Even when the series was over, when the Hurricanes had disposed of the Maple Leafs in six games to advance to their first-ever Stanley Cup final, the Toronto dressing room--not to mention most of the hockey world--was singing a tune of disbelief, a kind of collective "huh?"
