As the dust settles from the NHL trade deadline, teams that made changes are counting on those moves making them better. But many fans have much more modest aspirations--merely hoping to keep track of all the comings and goings before yet another round begins this summer.
The stockpiling of rental players and the attempts to buy Stanley Cups with free agents in the offseason has incited criticism that the NHL suffers from too much player movement. The risk is that fans will get fed up with cheering for a team one season, then finding its star players arriving in enemy sweaters the next because of trades or the league's free-agent system.
