For those of us fortunate enough to be collected under the leaking roof of the Georgia Dome at the Final Four, the portrait of a spectacular basketball evening was painted almost entirely in shades of red.

Maryland's bright red. Oklahoma's blood red. Indiana's candy-apple red. The pinkish red of Jeff Boschee's cheeks as he wept away the final seconds of Kansas' semifinal loss.

What was missing, obviously, were the varying shades of blue customarily provided by the fine folks of Highway 15/501. We had no Duke in Atlanta. We had no North Carolina. If that seems unremarkable, consider that it was only the third time in the past 17 years at least one or the ...
