After bringing airport security under its belt, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will soon take up highway patrols along the Golden Quadrilateral and North South-East West corridors, running to a whopping 14,400 km, to protect the national highway and help in traffic management.

Talking to The Hindu here on Thursday, the new Director-General of the CISF, B.B. Mishra, said some State Governments had reportedly opposed the CISF patrol move. ``We are in touch with the Surface Transport Ministry to make the necessary provisions in the law to enable the CISF to discharge the highway patrol functions.'' …
