The radical right-wing Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is holding the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to ransom by threatening to split Hindu votes in Gujarat unless the BJP kowtows to its demand.
The VHP wants the inclusion of a large number of its cadres to be nominated as official BJP nominees for the next month's Gujarat state assembly polls in a bid to control the party from the inside.
