The head of BAE Systems today suggested there was no way back for the 450 people being made redundant at the Brough site.

And chief executive Mike Turner also failed to provide assurances about the factory's long-term future.

Mr Turner and defence procurement minister Lord Bach were responding to questions posed by the Mail about delays to the completion of a GBP10bn order, which two leading MPs believed could have avoided cutting back the 2,350-strong workforce.

Their responses reveal talks are on-going with the Government giving BAE until next April to come up with an acceptable deal.
