IN THE ODEMMCHO QUARTER

Nudging midnight two geishas
solicit each other home with uneven steps,
morning glories past their prime.
Dressed in the same patterned cloth
(a flight of dragonflies)
they clump their geta, toes clenched down
as with more intimate art.
Here too your eye is drawn past
the slightly disordered robes
to the secret unfolding detail
behind the blind half-lowered at ...
