The bailout package for the Unit Trust of India (UTI) and increased expenditure on drought relief form the major chunk of the Rs. 9,045 crore second batch of supplementary demands for grants presented by the Government in Parliament today. While the UTI gets Rs. 1,949 crores, an additional Rs. 3,806 crores has been provided for supply of foodgrains under various schemes in drought-hit areas.
The Rs. 1,949-crore bailout for UTI comprises Rs. 438 crores for meeting the shortfall under US-64 and Rs. 1,511 crores for the shortfall under the assured return schemes.
